[She spreads her list on the workspace. It's about a dozen names, split between three headings.]
I also may have found the worst Kirkwall has to offer, but I've left him off. So. Anyone on this list is worth at least hearing, but it rather depends on what you want. This group, [she taps a column] are mobile; just passing through Kirkwall. The next are locals, have a following. Persuasive with the city and its immediate environs, probably already have some opinions of their own, though as far as I could find out, none of them are so anti-Riftwatch it's not worth asking.
The third group is highly motivated by money, so they aren't mobile now, but would probably take up a temporary life of travel if compensated well enough.
Or, [indicating a particular name] if the person who asks him is female and attractive.
[ It's a fair amount of options, more than he'd actually expected. Even her caution that this sampling includes the worst of Kirkwall's possibilities doesn't dampen his spirits. So there are some terrible musicians. John's been in many places where that sort of thing is considered part of the locale's charm. ]
I'd like to have all three.
[ Money, though. Hm. ]
As to the last group, I am sure I can find someone lovely to ask them nicely.
[ Well, someone lovely to at least ask. Spoilers: he's going to ask Gwen. ]
Which would you choose, if we could only manage one?
literally 1 million years old, so if you want to let it go no worries:
Actual enthusiasm can't be bought, which makes it valuable, but unfortunately it's also hard to judge. People good at this profession are generally fairly adept at telling people what they want to hear. But buy someone with only money, and you always risk someone outbidding you.
[She indicates a name in the first column, the wanderers.]
This one's ambitious, writes most of his own material. Wants people to remember him, wants to be unique. He'd be my first choice, if it were up to me. His own ego will boost him a lot of the way, frankly, if you convince him people are curious and will be curious about news of the renegade Inquisition offshoot. If I get a second choice...
[She moves her finger to a local.]
Convince her that Riftwatch is properly a part of Kirkwall's flavor, and you might not even have to pay her. Just give her some tactically low-priority but gossipy inside information on a regular basis, and I suspect she won't be able to resist capitalizing on it. She doesn't care if it's true as long as it's dramatic.
[Thoughtful:]
No one in Riftwatch has had their heart broken recently, as far as you know, have they?
no subject
