Without assurance of welcome? I imagine he'd prefer moving off into the wild rather than risk the alternative. I can't account for Yseult, or what options their assailants would have left him, but if he had the choice, I believe he'd take his chances with the elements journeying back to Kirkwall as opposed to prevailing on the people of Hasmal to provide him the means for the trip.
